  19. % This file is sent out regularly in the FILEBONE file area.  This list
  20. % contains information only for those File Distribution Nets (FDNs) NOT
  21. % carried by the  Filebone.
  22. %
  23. % To find out more about a particular FDN please request the information file
  24. % listed for that FDN and/or contact the FDN head.  Quite often there are also
  25. % related echomail areas available on the Backbone.  Many of the FDNs post
  26. % notices of newly hatched files in the FILE_REQ echomail area, available on
  27. % the Backbone.

  29. % If you are a FDN head and are interested in having your areas either listed
  30. % here, or carried by the Filebone, please contact the Filebone Technical
  31. % Coordinator, Larry James, 1:105/72.  Please supply him with the type of
  32. % information you see listed here for each of the FDNs along with estimates of
  33. % the number of nodes in your FDN, and the number of bytes of files per month.

  45. % The following format is used to describe each of the File Distribution Nets.

  55. %         "Area"  - Used by RAID (thanks George!) and similar programs to
  56. %                   denote the beginning of an file area definition.
  57. %
  58. %         FileTag - Name of area that files will be sent under.  Similar to an
  59. %                   echomail areatag, but limited to 8 characters or less.
  60. %
  61. %         Level   - Security level (0-4096) used to protect this area
  62. %
  63. %         Flags   - Access flags (see below) to control who's allowed to feed,
  64. %                   and what type of echo it is.
  65. %
  66. %         Desc    - FDN abbreviation followed by a description of the area's
  67. %                   contents.
  68. %
  69. % There are five types of access flags:
  70. %
  71. %     "!" - Filebone distribution.  Areas marked with this flag are carried by
  72. %           the Filebone and can found at any Filebone Hub site (see below).
  73. %
  74. %     "." - Open distribution.  While unrestricted in nature, these areas are
  75. %           *NOT* distributed by the Filebone.  Although many Filebone Hubs do
  76. %            in fact carry them, you may be forced to find your own feed.
  77. %
  78. %     "*" - Hatching is allowed by *any* node attached to the area.  This flag
  79. %           may be mixed with any of the others.  If an area does not contain
  80. %           this flag, then you may not hatch directly into it.  There will
  81. %           either be a "return channel" provided or you must send your
  82. %           submission directly to the FDN head or other listed site.
  83. %
  84. %     "&" - Do not send this area to any downlinks.  This flag usually
  85. %           indicates that an area is a "return channel" to be used for
  86. %           submitting files to a FDN head for distribution.  Be sure to
  87. %           remove it in your TIC.CFG for your uplink *only*.  This flag
  88. %           should only be used in conjunction with the "*" flag.
  89. %
  90. % ( all  )  Restricted distribution.  These areas are privately distributed
  91. % (others)  and are *NOT* carried by the Filebone.  You must contact the FDN
  92. %           head to obtain a feed.
  93. %
  94. % This format is based on the TIC and RAID programs.  Indeed, you can directly
  95. % use this file as part of your RAID config file.  For example, the following
  96. % DOS command could be used to create your new RAID.CFG file from the weekly
  97. % FILEBONE.NA file along with prefix and suffix files (RAID.BEG and RAID.END)
  98. % containing your personal configuration information:
